Advice and Counsel
This is the core of our employment practice. Simply put, our goal is to head off the initiation of legal and administrative proceedings. Every day our lawyers provide advice and counsel related to employment decisions to ensure compliance with well-known and obscure employment laws. For example, we advise on the legal implications of hiring employees, dealing with problematic employees, and terminating employees as well as all other workplace issues. We work with clients taking proactive measures in the employment area such as implementation of lawful employee policies and presentation of workshops and seminars on workplace or management issues.
Labor-Management Relations
We have a successful track record of assisting our clients in maintaining a union-free status. We work with clients to lawfully address drives to unionize and/or to address issues with existing unions including grievance procedures. Our experience in Labor Management Relations consistently involves a variety of matters involving labor relations.
Employment Litigation
Even with the best advice and counsel, formal proceedings will sometimes occur. Our lawyers are successful trial lawyers with the experience and skills required to deal effectively with employment litigation in any arena. We actively defend against charges filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission or the state equivalent. Whether in a court, agency, or an arbitration forum, we continue a strategy of active and focused defense.
Workers' Compensation
As a specialized part of our advice and counsel practice, our attorneys work with management to implement measures to reduce the costs associated with workplace injuries including, taking advantage of mandatory reductions for workers' compensation insurance premiums. Our lawyers routinely represent management in workers' compensation claims before the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission. For more information, contact Scott C. Ford.
Non-Compete Litigation
As a specialized part of our employment litigation practice, we represent management nationwide in litigation and arbitration to enforce non-compete, non-solicitation and non-disclosure agreements.
