McCandlish Holton Employee Volunteer Program
Working with the Points of Light Foundation http://www.pointsoflight.org/, the firm has established what is believed to be the first volunteer program of its kind among US law firms— the MH Employee Volunteer Program (EVP). Attorneys and staff work collaboratively to identify community organizations that have the opportunity to make significant impacts on the community that we serve; that have substantial unmet needs for expertise, volunteer time, and financial support; and that have the greatest potential to succeed as the result of our assistance. Our mission is to maximize the impact of our time, talent, and financial resources on individual lives.
EVP sponsors five community service projects each year. These are projects to which the staff and attorneys in our firm individually commit to achieve specific goals. In addition, EVP serves as a community link by providing our attorneys and staff with routine announcements regarding individual volunteer opportunities in the community.
Employee participation in community volunteer activities is encouraged through the firm’s policy that provides each employee with an additional eight hours of annual leave to be used in firm-endorsed volunteer activities.

McCandlish Holton Public Interest Law Practice
The attorneys of McCandlish Holton fulfill their professional obligations to the community by providing a variety of pro bono and public interest legal services. Many of our attorneys devote substantial time to representing consumers through the Central Virginia Legal Aid Society. Others serve as regular and special pro bono counsel to a number of civic and charitable organizations including Central Virginia Food Bank, Richmond Better Housing Coalition, the Community Tax Law Project, the Young People's Community Choir, and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
Our attorneys also provide reduced-fee and pro bono legal services to individuals and organizations seeking to end housing discrimination, an effort which resulted in the largest civil rights jury award in American history and earned our firm and our lawyers regional and national acclaim. In addition, our attorneys have provided pro bono legal services to a number of inmates including capital punishment appeals.
Our firm strongly believes that all persons should be accorded with due process and access to legal counsel, and our activities demonstrate that commitment to civil liberties and professional responsibility.
